I got my exhaust manifold and intake manifold back from Jet-Hot. I had Jet-Hot coat them with their 2038 Cast Iron color.
When I went to install them, I ran into a slight mismatch between the exhaust and intake manifolds flanges. I found that for the SU manifolds, there were 2...HS4 and HIF. The difference in the flange thickness was 9/16 and 7/16, or 1/8 inch between them.
I search the forum and found several really simple suggestions about using stepped washers. It seemed much easier than grinding and a lot faster.
But? I thought to myself, what about when I have to take them off and forgot I added step washers and drop one. Knowing me, I know I’ll never find that dang washer on the floor no matter how hard and long I look. Besides, its just not the right way to do things.
So, I took the intake manifold to the local machine shop and had them mill the flanges to match the exhaust manifold. Easy Peasy.
