“Greenmeanie”
1972 MGBGT
I have downsized our housing and space from 2500 sq ft. to 900 sq. ft. and a four car garage to a 1.5 car garage. Unfortunately, I have had to also downsize my LBC collection.

I have owned this BGT since 1986 and completed a full restoration that spanned 2006 to 2013. This car was disassembled down to the monocoque tub. Every part down to the last nut and bolt was rebuilt, plated, or replaced with new and or upgraded parts. I am a former SCCA racer, and now a Vintage participant. This BGT is prepped for reliability and a true sports car experience. Approx. 1500 miles on restoration.

Overview

3rd place in first show at SoCal MG car club 9/2014. Well sorted. I would not hesitate driving this MGBGT from California to Maine. Cruises Interstate at 80mph @ 3500 RPM*. I have set this car up for spirited driving. I have never abused or raced this restoration. Holds the road like it is on rails. Brakes straight without pull, but requires a lot of pedal pressure due to the twin, non assisted, adjustable bias, front/rear master cylinders. If you like the sound of a well built and tuned 4 cylinder motor, you will love the pitch of this nicely prepared BGT. Pulls strong through all gears easily exceeding 6000 rpm with no valve float. Stage one cam, aluminum radiator, petronics distributor, aluminum cross flow head ported and polished, weber outlaw 38/38 carburetor. Full suspension rebuild. Leather interior. This BGT is made for maintaining momentum, turning left, right, and braking. Cabin gets warm in hot weather, but what BGT doesn't? Has never overheated even in the California desert summer heat. In fact I have to block off the radiator in cooler weather to get 180 degrees with a 195 thermostat. Overdrive 3/4.

What needs attention.

Speedometer: Speedometer tested positive out of car before installation.
Suspect drive gear in transmission faulty.
Heater: Cross flow Head required a 3 inch extension to mount control valve due to valve cover interfering with installation. Cable control needs modification.
Boot/hatch. Mystery squeak. Possibly Hatch hinges.
Horn: Steering wheel hub needs shorter button plunger. Horn functioning but disconnected.
Wipers: Functioning. Arms and blades not installed. Included.
Paint: Typical nicks and scratches resulted from assembling painted car.
Seat belts: New. Difficult to pull out due to inertia mechanism designed for vertical installation. Currently set for my driving position but still adjustable.

Full Details.

The complete list of the restoration is too lengthy for listing on this site and is available on request. There are a number engine, suspension, and electrical upgrades. If you are a purest, then this may not be the car for you. It is priced in the mid teens accordingly as a number two car per Haggerty guidelines. As with all quality restorations, I have more invested than the asking price, plus the uncountable hours. I encourage inspections and a test drive.

The above was put together by the person I bought this car from in 2016 (Stephen Jones). I have changed wheels and tires since purchasing. (see my member ship photo)

I see the windscreen of your bgt has no chrome surrounding it. I have chrome around mine that I would love to get rid of. what kind of gasket did you purchase that enabled you to eliminate the chrome or was body work done to repair the body surrounding the windscreen after removal of your chrome?

Terri: Yes it is still for sale. Please contact me 661-821-0414 or 6tggt6@toast.netL.M. The gasket is stock from Moss. It has the ribbing for the chrome, which I have, but never installed it because I also like the look also.

Hi, beautiful GT. Which wheels are those and what size tires? They look great!

Thank you for the compliment. I purchased the wheels at auction (ebay) 10 years ago but don't recall the manufacture. The tires are yokohama's, R60 195 14's.

Nice build. What's the story on the cross flow head? Is that a custom intake manifold? And what suspension mods have been done? You think I could drive it back to Michigan? Is it good on unleaded?

Hi Clark.Thank you for your interest in my BGT.Per your inquiry questions. The cross flow head is aluminum, as is the intake manifold. I ported and polished both the intake manifold and the head, removing all rough and uneven castings. The manifold is a Pierce, and the carb is a true Weber Outlaw 38/38, not a repro. Both barrels open together for quicker full throttle response as opposed to sequential. All suspension was black powder coated, front and rear. Rebuilt front Armstrong shocks with competition valves and 40 wt. motorcycle shock oil. 15/16ths". front roll bar. Poly bushings all corners, tube shock conversion rear. Car lowered 1.5", front and rear. Drilled and slotted front disks. Bronze valve guilds for unleaded fuel, premium.I would have not any hesitation driving this restoration cross country. That said, please keep in mind that I know every nut and bolt on this car, and am a competent mechanic with 36 years LBC experience. There have been performance modifications to the ignition, engine, and br

Thanks Stephen, sounds well built (I am a racer myself GT6 Triumph) and am familiar with most of the things you have done. I am currently selling another car to raise funds for a MGB GT, so I am definitely interested in this car. I will be in touch - may ask a friend in Tuscon to have a look at your car.

Hi Clark. We just moved to Tucson Arizona from California, and I'm still in the process of getting all my LBC's here. The BGT is in a friends garage at this time and is still in California. I plan on retrieving it May 15th, and bring it back to Tucson. There is a possibility that I bring it to Tucson Mid April. Your friend is welcome to come and inspect the car when I get it here. I will let you know when I have the car in Tucson.
