“Bonney”
1970 MGB GT, ORIGINAL PALE PRIMROSE FACTORY PAINT, BEND, OREGON
Manufactured in January, 1970, and purchased new in May, 1970 in the Bay area, 1st owner had a motorcycle crash in 1996, could no longer comfortably fit in the car. He stored the car indoors from 1996 until September, 2012. 2nd owner bought it then and owned it until I bought it in December, 2012.
General:
• Original 1789cc (1.8 liter) high compression engine, just turned 99,000
(original) miles
• 4-speed syncro manual trans (non-electric overdrive)
• Front disc/rear drum barks (new pads on front)
• EVERYTHING (gauges, electrical, mechanical, etc.) works and works
well!
Mechanical:
• All four cylinders ~130-140 psi or within 10% of each other
• Idle oil pressure = 25-30 psi; running oil pressure = 65-70psi
• Original twin SU HS4 carbs, synced and set for ~3500’ elevation
• New “high torque” starter
• New alternator
• Original twin 6v batteries converted to single 12v battery (new)
• Rebuilt SU fuel pump with “digital” sender (replaced original points
set-up)
• Backup electric fuel pump wired to two-pole selector switch
• Master battery shut off switch
Body:
• A few spots of surface rust, minor surface rust in engine compartment,
NO “pockets” or rusted-out areas. Structurally very sound.
• No major body damage; a few spots of paint blemish/peel and minor
surface scrapes
• Stripped to floorboards, removed old sound mat, minor rust around
seat mounts removed and mounts reinforced, POR’d, FatMat installed
for sound/heat reduction
• Chrome all in good shape, minor surface rust spots; original split
chrome bumpers with bumper pads
• All window glass/ light lenses in excellent shape (no cracks, chips,
etc.)
Other equipment/mods:
• New 12-gallon fuel tank
• New carpet and vinyl panels; front/rear seats are original covers, in
good shape
• New front door seals
• Kenwood AM/FM/MP3/WMA/WAV KMM-100U stereo with two rear
speakers
• (5) 185/70R14 Michelin Defender tires, including spare with less than
1,000 miles, mounted on wire rims. Replaced original 165SR-14 tires,
so speedo runs about 5-7 mph off
• Custom “high mount” brake light installed for better visibility
• Inertia-style retractable seat/shoulder belts
• Center console (as found in later 70’s BGTs)
She runs and drives VERY well; not Ferrari fast, but corners like a slot car. On a 1-10 scale, with “1” being a junk parts car, and “10” being a concours-quality (show) car, this car is certainly a 5 and probably more a 6.
$6000 firm, serious inquires only
