After spending a fair amount of time searching (my wife was extremely patient) I found a 1980 Leyland White MG in Delaware that I purchased. A very nice car, I might add! I drove down from the Finger Lakes area of New York, 5.5 hrs, with trailer in tow. This happened on January 15, 2022.
I literally had a window of two days of dry weather for the acquisition of the car. However it was 10 degrees here and 15 degrees in Delaware. At least it was dry!
After spending a total of 25 hours on the road and overnight in Delaware, we got the car home safely. Now he, Winston, sits in my shop awaiting the first start-up of spring!

The Beginning Of New Seats!

I spent a little time today out in my shop with Winston, helping him get new seats!

Foam dandruff! Haha!

Fitting A Refurbished Steering Wheel

Even though there is no heat in my shop I still love to get out there work on Winston. This particular time I started tinkering with getting a new steering wheel.
First off, whoever put the steering wheel on did a very nice job. Plenty of anti-seize and the steering column nut was tightened just so. Kind of like Goldilocks choosing the perfect temperature. This steering wheel had the perfect amount of torque.
Anyway, it's off and awaiting it's replacement.

Choosing The Appropriate Steering Wheel!

I have to choose 1 of these steering wheels to install on Winston. I'm at a loss! Two of the pics show the difference in diameters with the original wheel.

I like 191255. Seems to fit the mood of the interior without either standing out or blending in too much.

Denton, thanks for insightful comment. 190134 (caramel) was my first choice. However, along with what you said 191255 had a nicer feel. I'm leaning towards the riveted one.

I also like the larger diameter wheel -- yep, less clunky looking, but that is strictly personl preference. E.g., notice how many people love those extra big rims with a very thin tire attached? They look like wagon wheels to me -- but, hey, MANY people are paying thousands of $$ to own them.

The large cross section on the left wheel will feel good on your hands and more like a modern steering wheel. You won't like the small diameter, though. I replaced my original banjo wheel in my 69 with a 14" and regret it. I'll eventually bump up to a 15". It does make a difference at low speeds or when stationary. I actually like the size of the original, just thought I'd retire it for daily driving while it was still in good shape.

Denton, HAH! That's the same reason I have 2 original steering wheels -- retired so they don't get worn out.

I bought a 77B last fall. It has the darker wheel (191255), and I like it. I may get a dark wood gear shift knob to match. The original steering wheel came in the trunk.I have it hanging on the garage wall.

Steering Wheel Chosen! (Maybe)

For now I've decided to go with the darker, riveted strong wheel. However, that means I had to adapt the 5 hole boss to the 9 holes in the steering wheel.

I also bought a turn signal indicator cancel piece and adjusted that some. Fun times now and fun times ahead!
