“The Feral Cat”
This is believed to be the only survivor of 4 such cars designed and made in South Africa for Volkswagen.

Designed by Gerrie Steenkamp and Nic de Waal of InterMotorMakers (IMM) of Cape Town, the car is built on, and uses the mechanicals of, a Series 2 VW Golf GTi 16V Executive. IMM achieved fame in the 1970's by assembling, from CKD kits, Lamborghini and Lotus cars to such a high standard the these cars still command a premium over similar, factory-assembled, cars world-wide.

In December 2023, in spite of international interest in the car, we transferred ownership of the Caracal to the Franschhoek Motor Museum where, in the fullness of time, it will DV share the limelight with other South African greats like the GSM Dart & Flamingo, Protea, Capri Perana etc. Yep, a sad but proud moment as we watched Lorenzo and Donny from the FMM load and drive off with our "Feral Cat" but we are now assured that it will stay in it's place of birth, South Africa!
