“Polar Express”
Basically a pleasant looking vehicle with original paint and very little rust. Interior came with a decent set of '79 seats (the dark tan ones) and in dire need of rug replacements as the floor matt which was made from dollar store door mats keeps bunching up. The thick rug that covers the battery box and the side rugs are all gone. something to do with the roll bar which I've taken out. The radio is trashed, speakers have cut wires and are worn out anyway. Electric antenna will win races though!
It has new tires, new master brake cylinder, new battery, replacement driveshaft? and possibly a brake job all round (new bleed screws anyway)and a fairly new muffler. Soft top was new till it developed a 1" cut right dead centre. This has been fixed.
Stromberg is gone, replaced by a single 1-1/2" HS4 SU, the twin fans are gone, replaced by a single unit on the engine side of the rad.
I plan to pull the engine and trans this fall and see what I can economically do to improve things. I am disgusted by the intake and exhaust, so want to track down a better header and if I can get my hands on a better intake that would help as well.
As for body work, there's not much to do. The right front fender has most of the rust where the rivets that hold the stainless trim on have failed and a bit around the headlight. It's all surface rust so might not be hard to fix. also the area just in front of the back wheels has about a 1" hole eaten through. I don't anticipate that this will take to much effort to fix. The under door valences are fine and ring true like a rust free piece of metal should.
I'm stumped about the colour. I've always equated white with city vehicles, so not to thrilled. It does have those wonderful MK1V decals running the whole length of the side though. My last B was that sort of sage green with the autumn tan interior which I liked, but since the paint on the car is original I'm thinking I should just live it.
My old MG manual that I purchased in 1975 is on MGB # seven now!
