Bruce S's 1978 MG MGB
or to vote for this car or leave a comment

This car started as my sons first drive around 1985 or so. He bought it from the second owner as a stock 1978 MGB and proceeded to totally trash it during college. I purchased the car ( smoke machine, rusted through floor boards, tons of miles, every thing leaking, rotted, etc.) for $500. I stripped the car, put it on a rotisserie and began a 5 year restoration. Only I did not want stock, I wanted a special car. 100 percent of the work was done by me in my back yard shop and most of the required parts were fabricated by me.This is a summary of the work: media blast, total rust repair by cutting out and welding in new material, modified trunk floor to accept a 15 gallon fuel cell, subframe connectors, engine compartment modifications to fit a 4.3 Chevy V6, transmission tunnel modified to accept a T5 transmission with a Tilton hydraulic throw out bearing and custom Camaro clutch, complete 3M undercoating, required bodywork for painting, body modifications including frenched hot rod tail lights, rubber bumper change to smooth valances, body side moulding removal, welded fenders, paint inside and out, installed mechanicals including a narrowed Ford 8 inch with positraction, MGC hubs ( same 5 on 4 3/4 pattern as Chevy ), Camaro disks, Cadillac calipers, tube shocks, custom driveshaft, complete computer designed and self built front suspension including k member, upper and lower a arms, sprint car adjustable coil over shocks, modified MG steering rack with external tie rods for bump steer control, modified Mustang 2 spindles, Camaro disks and calipers, Tilton twin master cylinders with balance bar, stock MGB clutch master all in a custom box with modified pedals, custom built emergency brake cables, modified MGB radiator, home designed and built equal length headers with balanced undercar duel exhaust with Mustang chrome tips. The wheels are 15 x 7 with 225 45 15 Hoosier street radials.I created the custom wiring harness using an aftermarket fuse panel. The interior is totally redone by me using black Naugahyde in a roll and pleat pattern on custom built seats and panels including a custom metal counsel which ties into a recovered stock dash with VDO gauges and real cherrywood panels. The top was new and installed by me. Over the past 30 years I have continued to modify and try to improve the car. Currently I am building and installing a triangulated 4 link with coil overs. I have corner weighed the car at 500# front and 600# rear and tested the front springs at 240# so I am debating about the new rear springs. The 240s seem to work on the rear at ride height so we will see.

Beautiful car ! Do you have any more pics? Engine? Interior? Back? I'm really loving the details.
