John Barnhart's 1976 Triumph Spitfire 1500
|
“Spitty”
Bought from my brother in Pennsylvania, dollied it down here to Virginia. It runs, but needs alot of work. so far I have;
Put new (cheap) tires on, rebuild brake master cyl., replaced front brake lines, calipers and rotors and pads all new.
Fabricated drivers inside door latch from angle iron, unstuck frozen bushing on wiper gear, replaced dead horns with aftermarkets.
Replaced turn signal assembly with new (don't bother with a used one like I did...it'll just break too).
Refinished dash laminate, adding and moving holes for layout I wanted.
Put plastic cover over dash pad, after epic failure trying to recover it myself with vinyl! (Looks great though).
Cleaned Weber carb and put in a kit, and an external fuel filter.
New Plugs.
Replaced stripped odometer gear with spare and cleaned all guage glass. (I scraped the black paint off the bezels so that they will match the new Smith gauges I'll be getting (Oil, Volts, Clock).
NEXT IS:
Rebuild rear brakes. clean/resurface inside gas tank. Install aftermarket pull-type headlight switch. New seals under windshield wiper bezels. rebuild shelves under dash..(fiberglass maybe?). install a stereo. replace carpets. address body work and/or rust. Drive it!
