Michael Brumagen's 1968 Austin America
|
This is a 1968 Austin America. It isn't running, so I am going to pretty much list it as a parts car.
It is definitely considered a project, or make a 'rat Austin' out of it.
I had one of these back in 1973 and thought I wanted to fix up another one, but this is way above my 'pay grade'. It's been sitting a long time and needs to go.
All glass is good except for a little crack on the windshield from what looks like a BB gun.
'Pop out' rear windows are good, and work fine.
Good straight bumpers, front and rear. Will need to be rechromed. One rear bumperette is missing.
Tail light lenses are excellent! The right side chrome bezel is broken.
Park light lenses and bezels are excellent.
Grille is excellent.
All side trim is excellent.
Headlight bezels are excellent.
Windows roll up and down as they should. Vent windows are good.
Good doors and fenders. Hood is rusted on one rear corner. Trunk deck lid is good.
Spare tire well has a lot of rust. Floor pans are still there, but soft in some places.
Driver's side rocker has rust.
Most of the rust on the body is surface rust where the sun backed the paint off and the primer is showing.
Seats (front and rear) are in unbelievable condition! Still soft and supple and not cracked. All inside door, panels are nice, but the passenger side rear is warped. I'm going to try to lay it out in the sun and straighten it out.
Both inside and outside mirrors are good.
Dash pad is cracked. Package tray under the dash is good.
Woodgrain steering wheel has one crack, but could be pretty easily restored.
Odometer says 31,000 miles, which I believe to be correct because the last inspection sticker on the windshield was in March 1972. I think the car sat outside for many, many years in Florida, which accounts for the poor condition of some of the paint and the rust issues.
Car appears to be complete. There is a box of miscellaneous parts in the trunk, but I don't think they came off this car.
The radiator has been removed and is in the trunk.
If nothing else, it will make a great conversation piece for yard art!
Car is sold "as is, where is", and no warranty or guarantee is stated or implied.
Please ask questions. Shown by appointment.
Cash only. No trades.
