Images posted to answer an enquiry: Quarter inch steel machined to fit the rear-wheel hubs, through-bolted. Bringing the central boss of the hubs down to allow this fit is covered in another journal posting.

Now that the hub's centre is opened out to be a sliding fit on a one inch axle, the main task remaining is to prevent it rotating. I thought about filing out a keyway, but decided against it for two main reasons; the job would be tedious with the tools at my disposal and [more to the point] the keyway would mean removing a lot of metal, needlessly weakening the component. Instead, I'm grinding off the thin flange where the bicycle spokes connected. With that done, I'll drill and tap two...

Currently, braking on ‘the truck’ is going to be one of the usual mechanically [pedal] operated tractor/kart disk brakes. Simple and robust, but very heavy. Thinking about needing two of them on a future differential axle made me wince. Mountain bike disk brakes are much less heavily built, and at any one time it seems that most of the stopping effect is coming from one disk. Before milling

I'm using repro CT110 rear wheels for the 'kart's drive wheels. Much of the rest of the drivetrain - Comet variator, axle, chain stuff, bearings, bosses - has been sourced locally here in Western Canada from a store called 'Princess Auto'. Connecting wheels to keyed bosses required that plates were produced for me by a [friendly helpful accurate] local machinist.
