I bought this car about 4 years. I wanted to build a customized car that looked like it might just be factory. My father and I worked weekends for three and a half years to get it done. We started with our own egg crate grill out of aluminum. We removed the chrome strip down the side and welded in the seems left behind it. We welded and blended pretty much every seem on the car and it really cleaned up the look. You really see the difference on the rear fenders were we blended in the top were the two pieces of metal meet and made them match the pointed edge of the tail lights. We removed the over riders, dropped the license plate below the bumper and moved the gas cap tothe side. The glass cap is now flush with the side of the car and has a tune knob that mimics the knock offs. The also has no badging which is fun when people don't know what an MGB is.
The interior was a lot of fun to make. It started with the dash board which is covered in engine turned aluminum. We made the steering wheel and added our own Lambert horn button. The door panels were copied from a 1961 Vignali Triumph's and they look very good. We added a heater selector from a 1953 Plymouth and a custom speaker box made to replicate the look of an old transistor radio.
This winter we are giving the engine some much needed attention. Replacing the cam, the lifters, valves, timing chain and rebuilding the Webber DGV that came with it when I bought it. I'll also re-paint the engine.
I can't wait for spring and the start of my B's first full driving season!
