Body Off

body and chassis separated

Skipping forward here. The sills finishe and the body braced (although not needed it turned out) I built a simple dolly to move the body around for ease of repair.

The rear doglegs were, of course quite rusted. I considered buying new patch panels but thought I'd have a go myself first. They were a little tricky to make, quite time consuming, but the finished effect is very pleasing. I think they'll be ok when filled and painted.It's really quite amazing what you can achieve with a reasonable MIG. Sills, B And A Pillars

Very rusted! I built the new inner sills and all repair pieces from 1mm zincalume. Barney's site was invaluable. Actually, It's not that hard, just requires patience and careful measuring. The pieces are plug welded in place. I bought the outer sills from Kilomartins here in Aus and they fitted perfectly. I had to completely rebuild the B pillar but only the bottom half of the A.

Ive had this car for about four years. It was last on the road in 1977 and has been previously 'restored'. The car came to me with a 15 NLA motor fitted and I have now fitted a 3 brg 1800 bored out 40 thou. The brakes, steering, suspension gearbox etc have all been rebuilt and I have been driving the car for a couple of years. However, the body is shabby and the only way to fix it is a complete rebuild.
