Tansmission Mounts

Eric Triplett — Posted on The MG Experience

Installed new tranny mounts without modifying the crossmember.

Removal:
1) Jack up the rear and support
2) Remove the exhaust.
3) Remove the engine steady rod.
4) Put a jack under the transmission and support the weight of the engine.
5) Undo the four pad to transmission bolts.
6) Undo the large frame to crossmember bolts.

Install:
1) Loosely pre-assemble pads and lower bracket, don't tighten the pads to the crossmember, yet. Make sure to use 1 1/4 in long bolts for the lower pin bracket so you have a bit of wiggle room for that upper bracket. The pin and bush assembly should be as tight as possible as you won't be able to reach it once assembly is complete. As you tighten the lower bracket it will be fully snugged so don't worry.
2) Start one screw on each side of the transmission pads. Leave them loose.
3) Bolt the crossmember to the frame.
4) Lower the weight of the transmission onto the pads or until the remaining pad bolt holes line up. You may have to raise and lower the a few times to get each side in. Make sure all 4 pad to transmission bolts are snugged up now.
5) Tighten the two pad to crossmember bolts with a short box wrench (you can see the wrenches in the photo below)
6) Snug the lower pin bracket.
7) Replace the engine stay rod and bushings.
8) Install exhaust and drive.
