NY Autumn Drive
Created on 2007-10-24 14:23:47
Well the NY area Autumn drive on the 13th was terrific. There is nothing like driving along twisty back roads with MG's in front of you and MG's behind you. It is a really nice change of pace to be driving with other LBC's, it makes you feel right at home. I find modern cars are driven in a very different way that our old MG's and it makes it very difficult to drive in today’s traffic.
When I'm behind a modern car they will invariably floor it pulling away from any stop, go full out to 40 mph and then just cruse at 40 all day, or until they come up to any kind of turn or down hill section of road which induces them to jam on the brakes. I constantly find myself getting ready for a fun turn and then realizing I have to slow down because the car in front of me has slowed to 20, and then they jam on the gas and are gone again. A few days ago I actually watched as the car in front of my started breaking on a long 6% uphill grade. (Rant Over)
Now I know new cars drive differently and don’t have to carry their speed and momentum through turns like our little B’s do but to me that is the fun of driving out cars, and that fun is hugely multiplied when you are driving with other LBC owners. Not to mention the fun of meeting and talking with some of the nicest people you are likely to come across. I loved the drive and can’t wait for the next one.
